Designing in Teheran (project A)

United Colors in Iran today means a quality chromatic contrast, and for chromatic quality we mean the degree of purity or better of saturation of the colors. The contrast of quality is the one that happens among intense and luminous colors (Shiraz roses, the clear sky in the desert) and other dull andsmeared colors. The empty spaces of our building shall be the background of these contrasts. The emptiness of the residence shall allow the perception of the space as if we were inside a blue cloud. The emptiness of the store shall allow a perception of the space as if we were among the stones of the desert the emptiness of the residence shall allow the perception of the space as if we were inside a green cloud. There are no hierarchies at this stage. There will not be fixed conditions to perception. The quality contrasts shall be given by chance and shall depend upon the surrounding conditions which will have the empty spaces react, and determining their musicality, their purity and their saturation. This way we shall are moments when the blue cloud shall be saturated and luminous, and the other elements shall be empty and dull, this way we could have elusive clouds, exceptionally blurred and the stone emptiness “pregnant with light”. And so on, to infinity.Once the arranging grid has been defined, we brake down the different levels of the emptiness, coherently with the functions and the programs (the store with its intention of being elusive, the offices as free spaces without obstacles, the residences as island of seasony peace) and we define the most appropriate skin for everyone. The result of this phase shall be the functional layers we shall use as the base of define fractal algorithm. A kind of recording of sound and motion schemes of the site and the use of the inside of the building, so as to introduce among the evaluation elements the “slow times” of the street and square, and the “fast times” of the communication and information, a matrix of strategies apt to energy saving-with reference to the Persian Garden and the technology of the wind chimneys as well as the parametric naval and aeronautical production techniques resent in the country nowadays. This fractal algorithm shall act on the available volume fretting it in all those parts wich will not adapt to the program, and wich will not satisfy the functional requisites induced by the layers. We set a sign language process against a “parametric” planning process, and this allows us to alter the shape on the whole following the variations of these parameters – we can make the surface multifaceted or curving, for example – and this gives us the rigid control of the constructive rationale and therefore the costs of the work. The obtained result is a building in which the traditional Iranian chimney by which all houses are air-conditioned in the desert, becomes a live element (divine) and warps the rational volume at our disposal up to make it suitable to Nature needs. The contamination is the result of some steps of this adaptation process and can be even more interpreted. The aim is to make the architectural organism, through an original complexity become able to face the articulate and constanty changing functional needs dictated by the program. The idea which is the base for this architectural “tale”is in the layers and in the way we shall decide to use to hierarchying them. In the idea there are the effects of a philosophical observation on the ” contrast of quality” (summing up in itself some important theoretical aspects linked to the program such as the corporate identity, the analysis of the site and the different political thoughts around the country) and the effects on the observation of the bioclimatic/anthropological and feasibility concepts relevant to the context.
