The research on the previous “life” of London bridge showed a very crowded bridge, densely built and even with a church on it! This bridge goes back to roman tmes and it evolved to a real part of the city through many centuries and the common thing in all this tme is that the bridge always covered a clear function for the city whether it was crossing the river or offering shelter from diseases, it was always a place rich of activities. One of the reason why the Old (inhabited) London Bridge has been demolished was because of congestion; too many buildings, activities and businesses going on. The design for the New London Bridge is a project that is correctly dimensioned for the needs of a contemporary city like London, with mostly public spaces on it and with as few buildings as possible. London as a matter of fact has been built too much and especially around this bridge it has a very high density and not enough green spaces. This is what the project offers, a longitudinal park filled with many functions: connecting, staying outside, green areas, rest areas for Londoners and visitors as well, workers and tourists.
