THE FLAG A FLAG IS NOTHING IN ITSELF It but reflects the lives of men-Full many a flag the breezes kiss, Full many a flag the sun has known, But none so bright and fair as this; None quite so splendid as our own! It is our soul’s great voice and pen, The strength of age, the guide of youth, And it shall ever hold the sky So long as we shall keep our trust(Edgar Guest) From the wave of a flag the President House rise up. Behind the flag there is an history that is inside the most representative building for the American people. The design generates an interaction between the building and surrounding, a continuity between landscape and building as continuity between people and President. It is a complex building in which working, living, public space for diplomatic meetings and for visitor come together, a flexible co-existence and integration of daily living- and working situations within one system. The four principal elements of the Flag House, generated by the stripes, is a building with a clear function and smooth transition between spaces. The Main stripe is the State Building, the core of the house, directly connected to the Staff Building and to the Family Residence and, on the other side, to the Visitor Building. Other stripes generates hills and slopes of the Flag park. The fifty stars on the blue part of the flag becomes little islands of the Flag Lake.
