Designing in Teheran
Benetton office and store in Teheran- ( project B)
The multi-functional building is situated in a compact urban space, along an important avenue in the city. In this context it is important to bring out the brand image with an easily recognizable feature. A product’s ability to attract attention largely depends on the way the item is displayed inside the shop. One of the main aims is to promote the Benetton image in the Iranian capital through a creative use of the colours which have always distinguished the brand in the world. The company image, together with the use of bright colours, was the initial element which prompted our reflections. From the outside the building is made up of an ebony coloured concrete base, decorated whit a stylized pattern taken from traditional local architecture. The surface of the base is alternately interrupted by some white solids jutting out of the building, which are the shop-windows of the three commercial spaces. On the upper floors, the building is defined by horizontal bands that entirely circle it and characterized by multicoloured sun-protective. Internal hanging gardens help give the façade an ever-changing look through a combination of depth, transparency and reflections. This external simplicity contrasts with a complexity of inner spaces made up of double/triple heights and spatial relationships. The interior is organized around two lateral columns of amenity elements. From these columns all the corridors and internal divisions between the various functional parts start. The commercial space is organized around the perimeter of the building to create a “square” in its centre, as a climatic oasis which extends up to the full height of the building. The modular structure of the building, permits a flexible organization of the inner spaces for future changes in functional sub-division. For this reason there is a clear separation between structural elements and light internal office partitions. Each level has a different floor plan which opens on terraces and hanging gardens which, from the second to the sixth floors, create a series of external walkways which ensure users of the building spaces for relaxation and socializing. Interior gardens improve the climate inside the building by increasing the oxygen content in the air and binding pollutants. The atrium functions as a light shaft and natural ventilation system. The technological solution warming in winter and ventilation in summer. In summer the bioclimatic functioning generates convective loops to refresh the air. In winter it favours heat accumulation.
