The proposed Social Housing Concept shoots vitalizing injection into the existing urban structure, activating the city life and resulting in social and ecological sustainability. The main goal of the concept is to provide a new focus for social aggregation and flexible customized solutions for living. Boosting tolerance and supporting diversity play an important role in the design concept, which is based on the architectural heritage of the city as well as the existing urban environment. The social identity of the area is strengthened – where the sense of identity and membership in the place provides incentives for active participation in community life. The urban context creates possibilities for developing the project as a unique urban district. The area could become an example of sustainable urban city structure based on social values. The composition of the buildings creates contemporary environment and a hub for social activity. The public areas connect the buildings and functions creating free flowing space for future city life and places for the residents to interact. The architecture is a synthesis of contemporary architecture and local tradition, the most important themes being urban composition, courtyards, flexibility and orientation of the public spaces. The building concept is an interpretation of the traditional Milanese courtyard: a housing model capable to respond to needs of community, individual and familiar life. The building design idea is based on flexibility of functions and spaces. The Concept provides new housing typologies for the future needs. The variations of the housing typologies create active and lifecycle environment. The concept consists of three diferent typologies of buildings with courtyards – The Atrium Tower is like a vertical village with open inside atrium. The Garden block has a green courtyard, which opens to the park, The Community Building is core of the active social life with the main public functions and services and The Torrette di Trenno could become the center of social sustainability and generator for knowledge network of sustainable lifestyles. The urban, local and resident services are an integral part of the concept and activation of social life. The spaces are flexible and they can be divided into several different-sized independent units. The objective of spatial solution is to create interactive environment that promotes collective and creative thinking. The sustainability of the concept is based on social, environmental and cultural values, in balance with economical reality. The concept promotes incentives for sustainable lifestyles by multiple solutions. The flexible construction system is based on prefabricated elements. The building design allows different layouts from floor to floor and allows changing during its lifecycle. The materials and articulation of the elevations generate rich urban texture and create interaction with the environment.
