The project is developed in the inner city of Sønderborg, unique place for living with a traditional architecture; it’s a characteristic landscape which consists of important forests and a strong presence of water. The project aims to identify new ways to experience the landscape, connecting several activities such as marina, leisure, residence; it also wants to link the Nordhaven with embankment and marina areas, intersecting private and public pathways. The center of Sønderborg should become a new center of interest that makes it possible to live the port and the landscape in new relationships. The starting point is the existing relation among the emergencies of landscape and architecture; housing, commercial and industrial activities actually create a complex system, whose extension become a new network of routes and connections. They detect common areas, pathways and private spaces, where water always is the primary element. The port and the city will be connected with a new road, crossing the fjord; the road is characterized by centers of recreation (playground, tennis and basketball courts, swimming pool, elastic carpets, game fishing), cultural and commercial squares (info point, library, shopping center), and areas for energy production (solar and wind power). NEXT STOP ENERGY: with reference to the latest aspect, the whole system is directed towards the sustainability of architecture as a symbol of the future. Residences, and, most of all, the tower, are proposed as symbols of ecological factors. The embankment is the entrance to Sønderborg and gives you an overall view of the harbor, the palace and the silos. New viewing points have been introduced by the network, in order to relate the city with the port. The embankment is included in the new system through two poles of attraction: a cultural pole (library) and a commercial one (shopping center). The harbour is the first element of the new network. It’s a new entity that proposes a different development of tourism: the port itself is strongly integrated with the routes and special tourist and commercial areas have been developed, in addition to traditional nautical activities and camp surrounded by green forests. The port is also strictly related to the network of leisure activities, cafè, restaurants, commercial and cultural hubs crossing the fjord. These activities take place among the network and get materialization through infrastructures and through light volumes that leave the soil clear, in order to preserve a continuity among paths and public perspective of the landscape. Beyond the fjord, the silos is the most characteristic building of the urban landscape. In the past it was used to store food for the city; tomorrow it will be the energy source of Sønderborg. The volume imposed by that huge element is now wrapped by a system of blades for wind energy recovery. The tower is a symbol of the new development. Inside, there are leisure activities (climbing, walking), a bar, exhibition rooms and viewpoints. For the Nordhaven the project proposes a particular language that allows you to identify the new location through some recurrent elements. Both the tower and the residential area are composed of circular volumes whose design is based on the principles of sustainability. The ground floor remains clear to ensure continuity to paths and a public areas, visibility and accessibility to the fjord. The soil becomes an opportunity to experience the landscape. A parking area, both for cars and for bicycles, takes place under the new settlements. The residences consist of volumes suspended through pilotis; somewhere stairs allow to reach a round hanged catwalk, from where the single apartments can be reached by private ramps. The apartments are duplex with two or three bedrooms, a kitchen, one or two bathrooms and a living area/dining room. The apartments, orientated to south, have open terraces on the second floor, so to ensure the apartments behind a visual permeability towards the fjord.
