Urban Project
The aim is to provide the city with an open space where people could spontaneously perform; a big linear urban theatre all through the public space and leading to the new building: a new stage for the city.
The public space is conceived as a succession of terraces, a promenade following the same geometrical principle than the audience of the Grand Theatre. Therefore the public space is an extension of the building where architecture and landscape are treated as a whole. The visitors are invited in a progressive ascent to discover the city from successive platforms, from the street level to the top of the theatre. The roof becomes the arrival point of the promenade offering a wide view towards the city center, and over the roofs, to the horizon.

Building Project
THE GRAND THEATRE
The theatre hall is an introspective and opaque volume. It is materialized by a raising folded surface. The art is evolving inside, on the lightened stage. The hall reveals its shape to the outside, wrapped by the circulations and lobbies like creases of a garment that softly protects what is happening inside and that are revealed through a glass façade to the public space, so they also offer to the city new stage in the urban landscape, where the city is the audience.

THE AUDIENCE
The arrangement of the hall in steep terraces slightly facing each other allows a good visibility of the stage but also upon the other spectators, like in the Italian theatre where the visual connection among the audience is as important as the performance on the stage. The audience becomes a place for people to encounter and interact.

THE SMALL THEATRE
The small theatre is treated as a singular and isolated object. Its simple volume, a floating black box, is not perceived on the outline of the building but clearly recognizable from the inside

THE ACCESS
The entrance sequence is part of the theatre scenography: arriving, meeting, finding each other, buying the ticket, discovering the program, leaving your coat… The necessary spaces are contained in one same volume, on different levels, all visually connected.

THE DELIVERY
The delivery is placed at the most functional place, where it has a lower impact on the surrounding public area. It is fully exposed though, as a scenographic activity, animating the street and providing a special character to this area
