3XNs project design for Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences uses as its premise the belief that spatial diversity creates the best framework for learning. The new building connects itself with the existing historic structure by way of a central marketplace, facilitating meetings between people, buildings and the city around it.

It is through interaction that points of view and people become informed. The marketplace functions as the ‘heart’ of the building where a synergy is established between students, professors and practising lawyers – all of whom are able to use the University’s conference facilities. The vision is that Wiesbaden Law School should be a spatial attraction for the city – a dynamic gathering place that blends together with its surroundings signalling solidity and openness.

At the marketplace, all functions blend together. The buildings are conjoined by terraced balconies which create a visual and physical connection between the café, library and auditoria. This creates a cohesion and dynamism. The varying light and shade from the open roof construction strengthens the experience of a changing space with constant movement. The new University Building therefore creates a framework for the student’s daily life and creates the possibilities for knowledge sharing on a professional level.
