Sequence, silhouette and scale
The new Museum of Nature is adjacent to the Botanical Garden and establishes with the nearby amusement park and the Alpine House a spatial sequence. The volume evolves from the idea of assembling the prevailing house silhouettes. The notched roof joins the different scales and bridges between the suburban character and the nearby urban structure.

The Natural History Museum

The museum’s collection has emerged from the process of “catching, finding, collecting and exhibiting.” The new museum evolves from contrasting the figurative, lyrical world of exhibits to abstract geometric structures of the new building. Both, the external appearance of the house with its vertically profiled façade as well as the interior structure of the open exhibition space reflect the aspect of contrasting.

Organization and program 

A wide corridor on the ground floor is the main public space and the connection to the external parcour. The corridor provides access to all public functions such as the reception, the information desk, the shop, the library, the auditorium and the cafeteria. The main staircase to the exhibition spaces and depot in the basement level is located below the atriums. 
The exhibition spaces on the upper floor are supplied with skylights. The rasterized structure allows the establishment of spaces in different sizes and different requirements. The depots can also be used as a small showroom.
