“Not long after Kinzo’s previous premises had been burned down, the company built a new distribution centre and office at a different location. With facades entirely clad in silver-grey profiled sheet metal, the new building looks much like any other industrial building. What sets the Kinzo distribution centre apart is the ingenious decision to stack the programme as compactly as possible and tailor the outward appearance to the projected A30 motorway forty meters away. The building consists of one big distibution hall with a high and low section. The company car park, which is located within the building lines of the complex on the roof of the low section of the distribution hall, is reached via an access ramp parallel to the front elevation. The main entrance is on the same level as the parking deck which in turn is about the same height as the motorway embankment. Above this hovers the volume containing offices which rests on eight slender columns. This floating box, which leds the complex an unexpectedly dynamic and spatially intriguing appearance, rises above the motorist’s horizon. The eye-catching simplicity of the form will ensure the company a strong presence as soon as this locate has become what estate agents like to call a ‘high visibility location’”
