Ur.2 House

001_large

The project is a u-shaped duplex development located between an arterial street and a steeply rising butte. The designer’s goal included reexamining the typical developer duplex typology that mirrors units regardless of situation. The units differ greatly from each other, in composition, but still embrace outdoor living and its topographical reach. Readers may find interest in the triangulated geometry that echos adjacent land forms, and cantilevered box trusses, creating simple, tumbled rock-like volumes. Lastly, much is made of the relationship of water, light and architecture to animate interior settings and increase awareness of the aspects of the site. Sound motion and reflection from the water court assist in defining two distinct residences, as well as mitigating ambient traffic noise. Architecture and landscape are elaborated together and mutually articulated.
