Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation SERLACHIUS MUSEUM GÖST A EXTENSION The place The lake of Melasjarvi, the grassy downhill, the monumental trees of noubel structure, the extecive visual field from south to north, are prevailing conditions for the Serlachius fonsation, plunged in the poetry o fan uncontaminated place enriched by evocative references. The existing building is surrounded by the green drawn by the paths end the degrading ways towards the lake, unchanget since the manor has been built, the natural and artificial landscape seems to have stopped the time. The philosophical architectural approach has to absolutely start from the nature, this is the central theme. The project The new Serlachius is an organic building, the project is created from the place, it is formed by the ground and from it, it becomes the new form. By using this downhill window openings are abstained where necessary, towards the south and west side, towards the lake. The underground building include all the activities linked to the exposition spaces, in the middle of the implant the huge exposition room rising its window volume prisma, the only new visible presence in the park, an opaline mas lighted by night, tranlucid by day. Besides the exposition room the caracteristic element of the project is the entrance foyer, an organic, natural, simple and attractive form, having a high simbolic content coherent with the natural relation between the fantastic and abstract form. Between the entrance road and the pedestrian way already existent, the ground in front of the existing entrance of the building is rises giving the idea of transparancy and light, the entrance of the new museum is like a lighted cave, completely surrounded by wood and this effect invites the visitors to enter the museum. The building is organized around the huge ex position room, the internal space 9 metres high is overlaped by a floor of 3 metres, that catches natural light and an implant space for artificial lights and air conditioner. Going down from the outside foyer, we arrive to the lowered foyer that gives towards the front patio and towards the front side of the exposition room. The covering green arch obtaned from the court yard perimetre produces a magnificient plastic structure of organic geometry. From the foyer you can get directly to the conference room and to the distributive hall (direction west – east). In sequency you get to the permanent room, to the huge room, to the restaurant living towards the lake with a panoramic window opening towards the front yard. On the other side, westwards, the hall gets narrow going towards the lift which has been created from below of the old Serlachius building, this link goes through the garden avoiding visual outer sights. All the facilities, the warehouse offices, the personnel’s storehouse and access are turned towards the north-east side. The east side is completely surrounded by windows, endowed with a distributive corridor situated inside the double façade, allowing the connection to the restaurant area, functionally separated by the offices developed on two floors. The parking and the loading of the masterpieces area, is directly connected northwards on the tourist parking lot through a ramp that is situated under the main entrance road. The motive of the green coverage is the real fundamental principle of the project, a beauty sight and exposition space for outside exhibitions .The sculpture of the elk is kept in the same position, on the new axis of the ordinate at an altitude of +m.10,00, becoming a referring signal of the films and light projections on the background of the façade of the big room. A modern museum , a modern conception of the relation with the surrounding.
