The museum expands itself to the East. The extension consists of three buildings: a strip binds them together and connects them to the house. In the crossings between the bodies, the connective becomes transparent. The foyer/connective tissue holds together the three bodies of the addition [with a constant size and common to all three: the internal width of 12 meters] to the Serlachius house-museum. The foyer expands and stretches itself: it becomes a connective and distributes entrance, ticket office, bookshop, wardrobe and toilets. It starts from the existing entrance (and from this it unfolds outside) guiding visitors towards the main functions and introducing to the lower level of secondary and complementary functions. From the connective area, in a glass path, it’s possible to go down to the sauna. The extension touches minimally the house. The adaptation of the house is minimal too. The two parts remain independent although they are integrated. From west to east: - Conference room [and, at lower level, office/library]; - Bar/restaurant with kitchen and facilities + panoramic terrace; - Exhibition hall [and, at lower level, storage, services, and treatment of works, with direct access from the street]. The space is versatile and changeable. The stretched box/telescope is pointed (and open) to the islet of Taavetinsaari. It’s illuminated with white light that enters from the North and spread through cuts and shifts of pitched roof.
