For the fourth annual International Garden Festival (2003) at the Reford Gardens in Grand Métis, Québec, a forested section of the gardens was wrapped in an equilateral triangle (20ft x 20ft x 20ft) of yellow/green semi-reflective glass capturing three pre-existing birch trees within its confines. The form and limited dimensions of the wrapper creates a sense of intimate, courtyard-like enclosure that both frames and intensifies the perception of the forest.

From within the enclosure, the colour of the glass establishes a sense of spatial definition, while its semi-reflective surfaces creates surprising perceptual readings. This is because of the 600 angle of glass corner intersections, the ever-changing conditions of daylight and seasons as well as the position of trees within and outside the enclosure.

From outside the enclosure, the installation sometimes has a rather indeterminate quality, insinuating itself into its unaltered forest context like a chameleon. This is because it reflects its context of trees and visitors off of itself, creating the spectacle of people watching people watching nature. Sometimes the semi-reflective glass surfaces even give the ambiguous impression that there is no installation to be seen. However, during different light conditions, the form is physically understood as an object, acting as a receptor for the intense shadows cast by the trees.

The primary material employed is semi reflective, laminated glass sandwiching an interlayer of coloured film. Triangular anodised aluminium edge beams stabilize the vertical glass panels both at the top of the installation and at its base (hidden below the earth). Like a stack of cards, there is no visible vertical support, the whole being held together by structural silicone.

This installation, which was intended to have been temporary, has nevertheless withstood the elements and has been continuously presented at the festival since its installation in 2003.
