Se trata de la rehabilitación y renovación integral de una vivienda situada en el Centro Histórico de la ciudad de Toledo.

La edificación original data de la época barroca (mediados del siglo XVIII) y se encuentra inmersa dentro del tejido urbano característico del Toledo histórico, constituido a base de estrechas y quebradas calles, con poca luz natural. Presenta un pequeño patio de acceso a través del cual se accede a nuestra vivienda, que se relaciona con el exterior mediante pequeñas y escasas ventanas.

Los muros exteriores originales son de fábrica de mampostería pobre, sobre entramado estructural de madera, de medio pie de espesor. La cubierta original (desmontada completamente, restaurada y construida de nuevo, según proyecto) se encontraba oculta por un falso techo de cañizo.

La vivienda a rehabilitar constaba de dos partes, una planta de 70 metros cuadrados en un segundo piso y un pequeño trastero en la planta inferior. Ambos espacios se unían mediante una escalera que no tenía mas vecinos.

El proyecto a realizar perseguía dos objetivos fundamentalmente, conseguir la mayor cantidad de superficie que permitiera la normativa, e introducir la mayor cantidad de luz natural posible. El primero se consigue incorporado el trastero de planta primera y la escalera de acceso a la vivienda. Además se añade el espacio bajo la cubierta (que se desmonta y se vuelve a construir) para alcanzar la máxima altura permitida por la normativa. Dado que los huecos de fachada no se pueden tocar por la normativa vigente, el complemento de luz natural se consigue a través de una nueva terraza interior en la cubierta, a la que se accede mediante un gran ventanal orientado al norte (fuera ya de las restricciones de la normativa).

Toda la distribución interior de la vivienda gira en torno al salón-comedor que, contando con diferentes ámbitos, organiza las circulaciones; además, es el espacio que proporciona luz natural a toda la vivienda a través del nuevo ventanal, sobre el que se filtra la luz procedente de la terraza, consiguiendo así que el cielo azul característico de la zona centro de España se encuentre siempre presente en el interior de la vivienda.

—This project consists of the rehabilitation and a total renovation of a home in the Historic Center of Toledo, Spain. The original building dates from the Baroque era (mid-eighteenth century) and it rests inside the narrow and crooked streets of Toledo, with low natural light. We access the house through a small patio and the building has scarce and small windows. The original exterior walls are factory poor masonry on wood structural framing. The original cover, which was completely dismantled, restored and rebuilt, was hidden by a false ceiling hurdle. At the beginning the house had two parts, the main one with 70 sqm on the second floor and a boxroom on the first floor. Both spaces are joined by an outside staircase. The project tries to get two basic objectives: the first one is to get as much square meters that allow the planning regulations, and the second one is to introduce as much natural light as possible. The first is achieved by incorporating the boxroom and the general stairs to the house. It also adds the space under the deck (which is disassembled and rebuilt) to reach the maximum height allowed by the planning regulations. Planning regulations forbids us to open more windows on the facade, so we made a new sunroom on the deck, which is accessed through a large window facing north. All the interior distribution of the house revolves around the living room because it is the place that organizes the circulations of the house. It is also the space that provides natural light to the house through the sunroom window, ensuring that the blue sky of Spain will be always present inside house.
