A 292,000 square foot project includes the renovation of the Beacon Nabisco box factory and transformation of interior building systems into a fully operational museum for the Dia Art Foundation. The structure, built in 1929, is comprised of several building types, with extensive skylight systems and industrial building technology. The final program will include permanent galleries for such large scale artworks as Andy Warhol’s Shadows and Richard Serra’s Torqued Ellipses, temporary galleries, bookstore and café, and exterior land art and gardens on the property. The facility is being designed in collaboration with an invited artist – Robert Irwin, the living artists of the collection- Richard Serra, Michael Heizer, Walter de Maria and others, and the director and curator of the Dia Art Foundation.
