La intervención tiene por objeto repensar el espacio interior de un pequeño apartamento levantado en un bloque de los años setenta en el ensache de Vila, la capital de la isla de Ibiza (España).

El racionalismo de la arquitectura de esta época queda impreso en cada una de las partes del edificio, desde el tratamiento de la volumetría exterior hasta la organización del programa funcional.

Antes de la intervención la planta, de tan sólo 62 m2 construidos, se presentaba muy triturada albergando un vestíbulo, estar-comendor, cocina, baño, dos dormitorios y dos pequeñas terrazas orientadas a oeste.

Los acabados a nivel material estaban acorde con la orientación obrera de este tipo de edificio residencial: pavimentos de terrazo y rasilla cerámica, carpintería de madera de pino barnizada, revestimientos de muro continuos pintados en blanco, alicatados de azulejo 20×20 en baño y cocina, y persianas enrollables de PVC. El mobiliario que existía era un fiel testigo del momento en que se construyó el inmueble.

El esfuerzo de la reforma se concentra en conseguir con un presupuesto muy ajustado una espacio más diáfano y luminoso, a la vez que cálido y funcional.

En planta el cambio más significativo lo constituye la aparición de un único espacio de relación que engloba las funciones antes fragmentadas de vestíbulo, cocina y estar-comedor. Es el área más representativa con una importante flexibilidad funcional. El resto de la compartimentación se ha mantenido.

A nivel de materiales, se coloca un pavimento laminado de madera sintética en toda la planta excepto en las terrazas, donde se mantiene la rasilla cerámica, y el baño, en el que se utiliza un pavimento porcelánico de 60×40. También en el baño, para conseguir dotarlo de iluminación natural, se ha substituido el tabique que lo separaba del estar-comedor por un vidrio translúcido.

Para conseguir la harmonía y austeridad deseadas, se cambió la solución de rodapié que existía mediante una pieza de terrazo, por un perfil de aluminio en “u” que remata la parte inferior del revestimiento de mortero, a la vez que deja la holgura perimetral que requiere el pavimento de madera.

La iluminación artificial se resuelve principalmente de manera indirecta, integrando las fuentes de luz lineales en elementos de compartimentación y mobiliario.

El mobiliario es el mínimo indispensable para desempeñar las diferentes funciones y su acabado va acorde con la reducida paleta de materiales utilizados en la intervención.

The aim of the intervention is to rethink the interior space of a small apartment located in a block built in the seventies in the suburb of Vila, the capital of the island of Ibiza (Spain). 
The rationalism of the architecture of this period is printed on each of the parts of the building from the exterior treatment of the volumes to the functional organization program. Before the intervention the plant, just 62 m2, was compartmented housing a lobby, lounge-dining room, kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms and two small terraces facing west. 
The finishings and materials were working in line with the guidance of this type of residential building: floors of terrazzo and ceramic thin bricks, varnished pine woodwork, white painted walls, 20×20 tiles in kitchen and bath, and PVC roller blinds. The furniture was also a faithful witness to the time when the building was constructed. 
The reform effort is concentrated on getting with a very tight budget a more airy, light space, while warm and functional. On the distribution the most significant change is the appearance of a single relationship space that includes the previously fragmented hall, kitchen and living-dining room. This comes to be the most representative area with significant functional flexibility.
The rest of the partitioning has been maintained. In terms of materials, there is a synthetic wood laminate flooring throughout the plant except on the terraces, where the ceramic thin bricks are maintained, and the bathroom, which has a 60×40 porcelain floor. Also in the bathroom, to provide natural lighting, the wall separating it from the living-dining room has been replaced by a translucent glass. To achieve the desired harmony and austerity look, the skirting solution consisting of a piece of terrazzo, has been replaced by an aluminum “U” that finishes the bottom of the mortar lining, while leaving the perimeter gap required by the wooden floor. 
Artificial lighting is solved mainly indirectly, by integrating linear lights in partitioning elements and furniture. The furniture is the minimum necessary to carry out the different functions required and their finishings are in line with the limited palette of materials used in the intervention.
