The redevelopment of brownfields at the floodplains of the rivers Inn and Mangfall allowed the city of Rosenheim to extend its urban development down to the riverbanks. The Mangfallpark, built as part of the state garden show 2010, is one of the central urban development projects in Rosenheim. The new Mangfallpark connects the city with its rivers. A landscape boardwalk concept reinforces the unique character of the existing river landscapes. This 500 meter long system of boardwalks, including eight bridges, connects the city with the Inn, Mangfall, Hammerbach and Mühlbach water-ways. The boardwalks form the backbone of the new park and function as architecture-hybrids – they are ramps, bridges, promenades, viewpoints and seats all in one. Nearby the landscape board-walks, broad steps can be sat on and luscious stream-side gardens invite the visitor for a closer look.

The Mühlbach creek, which was previously built-over, has been uncovered and devised as an attrac-tive green corridor from the city center to the river Inn. It has been designed as a city creek. Between the future residential area and an existing power station, embankments confine the stream, whereby inlets create space for urban gardens along the waterside. The northernmost part of the Promenade boardwalk ends in an eight-meter-long protruding plat-form, which offers a wide view from the waterways to the Alps.

In the form of a graceful bridge, the Nicklwiesen boardwalk crosses the Hammerbach creek, which has been transformed into a kayak route. Large gravel islands affect the river flow while at the same time offering the visitors a place to sit and lie down. The recreational offerings are complemented by extensive playgrounds and sports areas.
