Forum Aureum is focusing on developing a new, modern and democratic public square in the centre of Uppsala. Forumtorget (The Forumsquare) is a public symbol, a place for public meetings and debates, as well as a meeting point in the city. The location of the square gives it a distinct city pulse; people come and go day and night; to meet, to shop, to hang out or just to pass through. The proposal, Forum Aureum supports the intimate feeling of the square and gives it the dignity that has been lacking.

Large granite blocks with a circular pattern made out of fibre concrete and brass creates a coherent and solid ground. The pattern connects the proposal with the old, historic facades of Åhléns – a shopping mall that is now being renovated and transformed in to a 21’st century shopping complex. The large golden medallion shaped sculpture, in connection with a few inset sofas represents the overall seating. The square offers limited area and the sparse furbishing creates a focused meeting point and implies and supports a natural flow. The medallion functions as a point of interest with its invitational form and will also help create a sense of identity to the square.
