ENJEU URBAIN : UN RIDEAU SUR LA VILLE
Le nouveau théâtre de Cachan a vocation à transformer le quartier d’un point de vue urbain, culturel et social. L’entrée du théâtre, comme une main tendue qui invite et guide le spectateur depuis le parvis, s’ouvre au cœur de la façade, signalée par une pliure qui rythme sa longueur. Le bâtiment se présente comme un volume simple, composé de deux entités superposées. Un premier registre vitré détache le projet du sol : il s’agit du foyer, transparent et animé, proposant un jeu d’ouvertures et dévoilant la volumétrie intérieure. Un deuxième volume minéral constitué d’un appareillage de terre cuite coiffe le premier, tel un rideau de scène, enveloppant le théâtre et allégeant sa silhouette.

UNE ORGANISATION FONCTIONNELLE ET TECHNIQUE
La grande salle du théâtre existant est conservée et le nouvel ensemble s’organise autour de ce cœur préservé. Au rez-de-chaussée, un espace d’accueil généreux articule l’ensemble des distributions vers les deux salles du théâtre, la cafétéria et l’espace d’exposition. La nouvelle salle de 250 places vient s’intégrer derrière la salle existante de manière à mutualiser les nouveaux espaces techniques et faciliter les flux d’acteurs, de techniciens et logistiques. L’image générale du projet est pensée comme un outil technologique et fonctionnel pour marquer le dynamisme de la ville de Cachan, dans un souci de qualité architecturale et paysagère.

A CURTAIN RISES OVER THE CITY
The new Theater of Cachan aims to transform the neighborhood with an urban, cultural and social point of view. The entrance of the Theatre, as an outstretched hand that prompts and guides visitors, is marked by a fold that pace the length of the façade. The building appears as a simple volume, made up of two overlapping entities. A first transparent volume disconnects the project from the ground: it is the foyer, open and lively, offering a set of openings and revealing the inner volume. A second mineral volume composed of terracotta elements, stands over the first volume and envelopes the project as a stage curtain.

 A FUNCTIONAL AND TECHNICAL ORGANIZATION
The new project is organized around the existing and central auditorium. On the ground floor, a generous reception area structures the whole distribution with the two auditoriums, the cafeteria and the exhibition space. The new 250 seats auditorium fits behind the existing one in order to share the new technical spaces and facilitate the flow of actors, technicians and logistic staff. The overall image of the project is conceived as a technological and functional tool that confirms the dynamism of the city of Cachan, for the sake of architectural and landscape quality.
