INTRODUCTION: The functional program adheres to the guiding concept of social sustainability. The respect for individuals and their psychological well-being becomes the motive of development of the project live. The respect for natural resources, wise use of land and materials, saving energy goes to the ethical and social values of respect and attention to all “weak” social categories: disabled, elderly, children, young people. The design challenge is to translate these principles into spaces and ethical matters.

CONCEPT: The idea of project comes from the reading of the context, defined by a pattern of blocks, the evolution of our interprets what characterizes more Croatia as a natural element, as a function of its beneficial effect in psychophysical terms like the rocky shore ,characterized by green parties, slopes and the sea. Within the batch in the pedestrian area, people are within an artificial terrace, on which there are areas of aggregation, gardens and green, which exponentially increases the perception of the quality of life and belonging.

URBAN INSERTION, INTERPRETATION OF THE IDENTITY OF THE PLACE AND OF THE INTERACTIONS WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD: BadelBlock is a piece of city that can now be defined as “urban void”, its structure is strongly characterized by the system of connecting infrastructure that are surrounding it. The urban voids, a legacy of industrial development within urban areas, define today’s opportunities for development and testing of new models “urban”. It fits well into the logic of the contemporary city, which always require more than one definition of multiple centrality within the city itself, in a series of “nodes in the margin”, allowing the spread of urban quality that belongs to the specific field of the center. The streets call with clean-cut edges east, west and south-east, while the north side is defined by blocks of nature irregular and uneven, with pre-existing elements of industrial architecture. The characteristics of the urban fabric of the area are large green spaces and the great triangular plaza to the south east used for the local market. The project area is a triangular space east – west, of significant size. The project relates to the supra-local scale: the main lines of action refer to the area of the local court, the towers are an visual connection with the territorial scale of the landscape by defining a series of glimpses and views, and easily identified in Landmark the urban landscape. In east-west direction, the action identifies specific areas: east-an urban forest dotted with residential towers that constitutes a first landmark easily defined by adjoining parks. - The main square between the retail cluster that try to sign the border and make the encloser block made of different cluster- The historic main building at the center of the system consisting of the existing distillery, rethought in terms of emerging element, cultural icon, where inside spaces are provided for educational and exhibition. - The office tower at the west entrance, which defines the landmark scale supra, easily identifiable from the main roads, land and river. In correspondence with the road, the built up space, tends to define the typology of enclosed blocks, the existing building inside it is for us to insert elements of discontinuity which allow the front of the block to be “split” in order to define new views, and reports made of indoor / outdoor. The discontinuity defined by the individual building, has been an element of inspiration for us to define new singularity, formed by the towers that are positioned within the tension sand fractures to define the block and defining a changing relationship spaces, with different degrees of intimacy. The block defines an urban front, mostly linear continuous functions on which to settle commercial and representation. The internal side hosts a part of urban space that ideally collects from the market square, which takes as its distinctive feature, the shape of the “umbrella” that are projected on the ground to form a hexagonal shape, in order to be marked indelibly the flooring. The square consists of a fluid space that is lapping all elements placed inside it, a connection space onto which the residences, located in the residential towers and cues. All housing defining a direct relation with green slats rest on top of commercial plates, which are placed hanging gardens and urban gardens, towers to accommodate them in an intermediate space which is made of a winter garden and multipurpose room suitable socialization.

TRAFFIC AND ROAD SOCIALIZATION: The project is located in a marginal area of the city center, our design choice based on ethical and social principles, that is why the choice for vehicular roads are excluded from the totality of the lot, the underground parking, provide and ensure a good number of cars, and at the same time discourage the use, because to go to their car it takes about 3 minutes on foot. This choice allows reducing the use of the car, depending on the increase of travel by public transport, cycling, public transport seen as par excellence, which allows quick travel within the urban context. This demonstrates a decrease of approximately 15% using their car in the first period and a continued decline in the long run, if supported by improved public transport services and places where you can park your bike. The underground car parks are at the infrastructure of access to the area by car, served by 2 large ramps located both on the west side, along a one-way street, allowing secure access maneuvers without interfering with the main streets. The entire “neighborhood” is a great pedestrian, or cycle, a continuous surface without interruption, where there are secure parkings, monitored, for bicycles. The vertical lift path then lead to a more pedestrian level, consists of hanging roof carried on trade plates.

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH: The decision to include green spaces, which allow genuine contact with nature, is not just the result of aesthetic and stylistic choices, most of the people prefer to buy houses in the vicinity of large natural areas for the positive effect on physical and mental wellbeing. Studies show that nature has a positive action on people, reducing the stress level and creating the effect of “restorative” or regenerative, which is able to provoke positive feelings and thoughts. It would therefore appear that the contact with the nature is refreshing for the cognitive and emotional processes negatively affected by the stress of everyday life and the high dense urban areas. Among the mental processes that derive most benefit from the exposure of the natural environments, the focus seems to be the most affected. The specific focus, in fact, requires concentration, in other words focusing on a particular task, which leads to a considerable expenditure of energy and, if prolonged, to a deterioration of the performance. Unlike the experience and the observation of a natural do not require a cognitive effort and this is why the observation of green space becomes an experience of relaxation. The creation of green spaces for common use also creates the possibility of finding in the vicinity of your apartment a place, not only as a break from the daily routine, but also for socializing and sharing. In this way you can promote the relationship with the neighbor, satisfying a wide range of psychological needs: the need to socialize than their own environment and experience to even the need for security, in fact supported by knowledge with the neighbor who may become a useful tool in times of emergency. In this sense the project is designed to increase the levels of satisfaction of the residents and the psychological and physical health of the end user.
