Restaurante Filandón

Mencion especial en el V Premio de Arquitectura e Interiorismo

A contemporary space with rustic touches, located in a privileged setting on the outskirts of Madrid. Traditional materials such as clay, granite and wood coexist and an up-to-date aesthetic results in a pleasant environment for the tasting of high quality culinary products.

Its name derives from a Cantabrian-Galician tradition that consisted of an evening get- together where women spun and chatted. This custom has also been the inspiration for the project.

The whole unit, of spectacular dimensions, is formed by three buildings joined together around a central courtyard. Access is through the granite courtyard to a space that serves as a link to two of the main blocks of the complex. The first construction is made of granite - a material widely used in the area of Castilla – and wood, forming a structure of trusses that support the roof. These are inspired by the ‘teito’ buildings typical of northern Cantabria; huts and barns – made of stone and covered with vegetation such as straw or broom – which used to be used as pantries.

The second building is characterized by a series of buttresses that divide the space into different environments. Sliding doors allow access to an area large enough to accommodate events of different sizes. Again, the materials used in this construction – granite and clay – reiterate the rustic tradition of León. The roof is of zinc, traditionally used in the palatial architecture of the interior and central area of the country.

The third block has been resolved with the optimization of traditional materials used in a more contemporary way.

The flooring of natural wood and terracotta endows this spectacular farmhouse with great warmth, to which a careful lighting design has been added.

Large terraces that open up spaces to the outside – connecting the exterior with the interior – are endowed with large windows.

The landscape is of great importance and intimately connects with the whole respectful architectural ensemble.
