The strong urban structure of Cheongna is developed on two main axis: the central canal way and the Crystal Park. Both of them are pedestrian ways.

The competition area is right in the crossing point of these two axes, that means the new city tower will be the third axis of the complex.

The aim is to create a connection and a relation between these three axes, articulating them around a node and create a unique complex that take form out of them.

The water is the primary element of the two existing axes and a central lake is foreseen in the competition area.

AXIS X

Along the canal way axis there will be two long buildings built directly on the water. They will remark the west and east direction and will create an inner space, a sort of water square along the canal way; an emptiness needed as relation with the city tower presence.
Walking from east to west along the canal the promenade will continue under the arcades at the water level (-4.00) or along the two wide lake banks. At this level will be placed bars, restaurants and shops.
These two buildings will connect also the two sides of the park (east and west) at the street level (0.00). Along the arcades will be placed art galleries and laboratories.
At the upper levels there will be an exhibition center and a cultural center (including events and conference halls)
AXIS Y
Along the Crystal Park axis the Kids Park building and the Water Park building will define the east border of the area. They will face the two lateral lakes directly through wides lake banks at the Crystal Park level (-4.00).
Two flight of steps will connect the lake banks level (-4.00) with the street level (0.00).
The two buildings as wings will create a sort of gate from the street to the city tower and the entire area
Beneath the Kids Park and the Water Park buildings will be placed the underground parking.
AXIS Z
As center pivot of the entire system the new city tower will grow up from the water. The main entrance is placed at the street level (0.00) with the lobby and the ticket office. Below there will be a bar surraunded by the water.
In the center part of the tower the main structural element will contain all the services as elevetors, service elevators, staircase, toilets and technical spaces.
Around this rigid element a steel structure will complete the shape of the tower.
From level + 5.00 to level + 351,00 the steel structure is wrapped with opaque glass panels. This will give transparence and lightness at the tower, nd in the night time will become a luminous body.
The main functions of the city tower will be placed starting from level + 351,00 with three floors containg: showroom, souvenir shop and multi bar. In the next five floors three overhang bodies come out from the tower shape bringing the visitor out of the tower, in a place completely surrounded by the landscape.
In these levels there will be a wedding hall, a restaurant, an exhibition hall, an observatory deck and an astronomical observatory.
At level + 386,00 the roof of the overhang elements will be used as terraces for entertainment facilities.
From level + 391,00 until the top of the city tower at level + 446,00 the steel structure remains naked. These levels will be for technical uses as antennas.
