The urbanistic design creates a continuum, which inserts a sequence of places, similar to plazas, to the new main entrance of the “AachenMünchener” insurance company. This boulevard is like a street as a defined space, that expands, with a human scale adjusted rhythm to widened locations, with different qualities. A bright floating space is created, that allows the employees to meet. With its clearness, it enables the employees to overlook their entire work environment and to identify themselves with it. the extension building occupies two blocks of the 19th century city fabric. It gives a new interpretation of the typical perimeter development with its semi-public and leafy courtyards. The urban sequence of expansions and squares is extended by a perron and a plaza evolving out of it. The effect is a new city quarter rather than only a building. Existing and new buildings are connected by the “boulevard” as a central element. This boulevard consists of a lucent level hosting seminar areas, restaurant, cafeteria, meeting rooms and other communication areas. The boulevard floats above the various garden spaces inside the building block, eventually opening up into small areas of different spacial qualities. It opens up at the main entrance and the head office, offering a prestigious insight from the street. The boulevard also works as the main connection of the different office spaces, which are designed on a flexible grid allowing the partition of all common types of work space.
