The extension of an existing school building, designed by witry & witry in 1998, was planned within the conceptual restructuring of the Rumelange city center. The new part of the building containing three classrooms is a three-stored wooden construction. The extension continues in the building line of the existing school and of the typical roadside. The compact edifice with an optimized ratio between construction volume and heat emitting external surfaces (A/V ratio) was built in low energy standard. The classrooms are oriented to the southeast, while the entrance and the secondary rooms are located in the northern part of the building. The southeastern facade is completely glazed and serves for the natural illumination of the rooms and for the utilization of the solar energy. A roofed alley is connecting the new with the existing building.
