LA Forum Liner Competition
INTRODUCTION
The Los Angeles Forum For Architecture and Urban design is located in a long, narrow space on Hollywood Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood, California. Proposals were asked to address the varied programmatic needs of the LA Forum, such as lectures, symposia, exhibitions and other various events for the Los Angeles architecture and urban design community.
Los Angeles Forum For Architecture And Urban Design_ LINER COMPETITION ENTRY
Assembledge proposes a strategy that inhabits a place between the fixed state of architecture and the portability of furniture. Our proposal constitutes itself as a delicately modulated ceiling topography of suspended felt panels which define the area of use below and form a zone of storage above. Using a simple rope and pulley system, ceiling panels may be lowered (or raised) to provide reconfigurable exhibit surface and spatial delineation within the existing volume. The ceiling system stakes no claim to infinite flexibility; it does promise to manifest itself in a broad range of configurations that support the diverse demands of the program. The Liner proposes that beauty, utility and versatility can be achieved through a deployable and transformative system that simultaneously animates the ceiling landscape, actives the floor space and modulates aural experience.
