The Cocoon of the silkworm is a space, a home created around existing structures, it both lets these Structures exist and grow and at the same time becomes a place for something new. If we take the three branches of a tree and create a space or roof between them, this becomes the project of the Cocoon.

This gigantic green roof structure is punctured thrught its skin in a series of places by the branching nature of different parts of the program that protrude out into the public space, and are imagined to give extraordinary views out over the city.
These spaces include lounge, cafes, bars, the vip spaces etc..

The three performing spaces are separated volumes inside this Cocoon skin, are red in cocour with the opera and performance theatre joined in the backstage technical areas in order to share these parts of the program and theatre auditorium located at the point of the site.

These performing spaces are designed so that each foyer space can overlook the public ground floor space. From these foyer spaces the public circulates freely into the different levels and the programs associated with each theatre.

All transit and technical aspects are introduced into the plan in the northern area of the site and below ground level horizontally linking the three performance spaces.

The cocoon skin is semi transparent and is designed so that the interior architecture can visually partecipate with the exterior city, day and night when especially the Centre is imagined as a giant kind of lantern in the night, its Interiors glowing, welcoming and celebrating the art performance.
