Programme
Proposing new:
swimming pool with aquapark, ice hockey stadium, basketball and volleyball training hall, hotel. Incorporating existing:
swimming pool, basketball and volleyball competition hall, hotel.

Genius loci
Opava is a university town of culture, leisure and sports. The atmosphere is placid, friendly, people’s eyes are open, they smile and they like to play. A feeling of creativity, inspiration.
The town lies in a landscape full of contrasts. There is energy, there is calmness and tenseness at the same time, openness and intimacy. A region typical for plenty of water.
The site is located next to the City parks, defined by streams. It is in the outskirts of the city but still in a contact with the centre. There is a touch of nobleness on the plot, in the public swimming pool from the 1930‘s.

Concept
A real centre of sports and leisure for the citizens, functionally completing the historical and business core. Broadening the park areas, making the lungs of the city larger.
Escape from the city, relaxation, free movement.

Proposal
It follows the routes of people in the area. Links to the park pathways. It is the other face of the city parks, an open land filled with air and light. The stream is the dividing line.
A centre is formed in the middle of the site, a natural square with a water body. A spot protected from winds by green slopes and buildings on top. A place where (and from where) only a few paths lead. A place of safety and peace, only here and there partly disturbed by the dynamics of curves of the slopes and by view-throughs out. It is the focal point of the entire space. A centre of gravity. There is both, areas of intimacy under the tree canopies and also lawn open spaces.
Objects are the climaxes of the downy landscape, a white cover of the hills. They are all one.
Landscape and architecture.
Three sides, three main entrances to one centre, a strip of parking around serving all the buildings. The new swimming pool is accesible from the central point providing access also to the existing one. The training hall is connected with the big existing hall. Spectators can access the new ice hockey stadium via ramps and stairways leading from the parking and from the water body.
