The Latvian National Song festival is an event gathering 40 thousand participants (singers and dancers) once in 4 years. The Latvian National Song festival is the fundamental symbol of Latvian national identity.
The concept of the Mežaparks open-air stage is based on phylosophy about symbolism surrounding the event of the Song Festival and the Song Festival Stage. Song festivals – manifestation of human ability to create a miracle out of mundane, of the immense creative potential of each individual and each nation – emerged from a simple folk song. The developed image of the stage is similarly unique in its simplicity and symbolically adequate: the obtained shape arouses associations with the sign of endlessness, a cradle, a wave, unity – elements characterising emotional values related to song festivals and to the sound itself.
