According to enriching the cultural life of the city with new activities, buildings and spaces, we propose as the main solution of project an axis that crosses Sullivan Cove, from Wapping corner to Kings Pier Marina. The extremities of this axis are rappresented by the project of a new theatre in Sullivan Cove at the top, and by the new tourist port at the bottom. These projects are linked by a walking promenade, which takes you to the new City Hall shopping centre, the new Tasmaniam museum and art gallery with archaeological area belonged of , the new Franklin Wharf Park with underground Oceanic Aquarium as well. In order to give functionality to the City Hall/ Sullivan Cove ’s connection we create two public squares, one in front of the new City Hall shopping centre, and the other one in front of the new Tasmaniam museum. Furthermore, we thought about pedestrian problems. We give benfit to the whole area in stake slowing down the traffic of Macquarie street with an underpass which leads you to an underground parking as well as slowing down the traffic of Davey street with an half roundabout we allowed pedestrians to cross the street without many easly risks reaching the new Franklin Wharf Park . These two solutions garante the continuity to the walking promenade.

The architectonic shapes are inspiried to the primordial iconography of tasmanian culture. In fact, the Park project system and the new City Hall shopping centre square project system refer to the notorious aboriginal grafities, as well as the restaurant tower in the park refers to the aboriginal musical instrument known as Didgeridoo. Part of the new Franklin Wharf Park and the Wapping theatre are “boomerang” shaped in memory of the aboriginal hunting instrument.

The prexistent museum will be exended because of probable future discoveries which will be found out in the area called as archeological site. Tasmaniam museum will be facing this prospective soon. Then, as if we reflected the preexistant museum volume on its east side, we create exhibition halls, offices, public services and on the panoramic terrace we create a restaurant and coffè point as well. In the court between the two volumes, a glass shell overlapped to the new volume allows to perform a big exhibition. Moreover at the ground floor, indicated as an archeological area, a structure of glass rises up. The attention of people walking by are easly caught because of the glass which clearly shows works in progress

It is a conical volume cut at the top with a ground floor surface of 1000 mq that is composted as in the enclosed picture. The platea and the gallery contain approxymately 870 seats. The covering is made up by overlapped slices “boomerang” shaped that contain lifts and wayout stairs. In the underground there are spaces for parking and storage. Looking the front of the theatre you can clearly see a green carpet space in front of the structure and two ramps which give you access to the underground.

respecting the building historical value, we preserve the City Hall’s ancient covering and we reconvert spatial configuration as well as uses in commercial and shopping sides. It is organized in two different floors; sliding stairs will take you to the up floor. On the other hand, at the ground floor there are offices, restaurant points, shopping stores and services. They are all located on a tree-lined walking way placed on both long side of the structure. At the first floor stores look towards an inner central court. The whole volume is bordered by a wide tree-lined sidewalk and a square in the front of the main entrance equipped with circled sitting-flowerbeds.

Emptying the two prexistent basins, the new park will replace the old tourist port. We share the emptied volume in two levels; the superior one is the park, the inferior one is the aquarium. The vertical connection between the levels is garanteed with a cylindric volume, with stairs, lifts and three wayout .The upper surface covers 40.000 mq and it is recognizable with a wide green area, a dolphinarium, two anphitheatres, and a restaurant-tower, that looks towards the sea and the mountains. Lighting and ventilation for the aquarium is garanteed by eleven cut cones placed on the park surface. In front of the sea we create an auditorium, in which scientifical meetings will confortably take place. Its capacity counts 450 seats.
THE NEW TOURIST PORT
We delimit the tourist port from the commercial side of the horbour with a boomerang shaped wharf which offers more than 150 boat places full equipped, and car reacheable. The wharf is managed by a yatch club whose surface counts 600 mq. Both boomerang arms stands for light sloped walking promenade, adorned at the intersection with a metal boomerang shaped sculpture. The waterfront counts about 700 parking places and shows a district market walking way extended for 1400 mq about.
