The new building for Benetton in Teheran was meant to create a recognizable landmark that can assert itself within a context characterized by the presence of the chaotic Vali Asr Street. The building appears as a pure volume, open on three sides to the city and completely closed to the east where are placed the common services and the vertical connections between the different storeys. This volume, which takes its form directly from the plot, it is carved in it in order to generate a hybrid open space located at a higher level which can be reached directly from the main road through an escalator. This element is the heart of the building and provide the offices an entrance which is independent from the shops that occupy the first two floors that can enjoy the highest visibility from the road. The choices of materials have been taken in order to satisfy both the coherence with the original concept of the project and the bio-climatic requirements of the city of Teheran. The skin of the building is made of perforated metal panels which are capable of acting as a brise-soleil, shielding the direct solar radiation in warm months and at the same time ensuring, thanks to the possibility of sliding, the right level of privacy that any activity requires; moreover provide an element of security for the shops at night. This choice produces a building which appears to be unique and dynamic at the same time, as its skin is constantly changing. The inner walls of this carved in volume, on the other hand, differ by a green coat made of wire mesh and climbing plants. A wall that breathes, absorbing carbon dioxide (and other polluting substances like O3, SO2 and NO2) and refresh the surrounding environment turning the central patio into a urban environment apart from the city.
