Designing in Teheran

Glass, concrete and steel define and characterize each part and the entire building in an harmonic synthesis. The building has a central bone structure which characterizes the base form, the primary structure, covered by a first glass and steel transparent skin, covered again by an external modular semi-transparent cladding characterized by three different colors. It grows up through the perimeter of the project area and develops its structure inside with an alternation of full and empty spaces. It follows the idea of versatility and open spaces; it is a mixed-use building, a flexible structure adaptable to other uses and it is formed by big open spaces, gardens, windows, mixed together to create a comfortable environment. This building optimizes the meteorological data of the climate to achieve comfort for the occupants; inside and roof gardens limit street and city pollution and create an ideal micro-climate, favorable for people living; they synthesizes all the interactions with the environment into a balanced ecosystem. The use of ventilated façade allows for efficient management of temperature and energy and limits overheating. The colored panels could be in photovoltaic glass (see MIT and Covalent Solar studies) and can provide both shading to walls behind and electricity for the building’s life. The presence of gardens into the building is useful to create a comfortably microclimate, allows to harvest rainwater and, eventually to realize a biological sewage treatment system (beds of plants and aquaria, to eliminate nutrients and bacteria and convert greywater and sewage to clear water). Architecture should be sustainable and minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing energetic efficiency, the use of eco-compatible materials, and an urban development in harmony with the space around. I tried to develop a “green building”, an environmentally conscious architecture that incorporates not only the ordinary values of architecture (strength, functionality, comfort, aesthetic) but also the environmental dimensions (energy efficiency, sustainability concept, holistic approach).
