UK-Southend: pier head design competition
Southend Pier is an iconic structure that over the last 150 years has helped define Southend. In 2005, however, a fire destroyed the Pier Head.
Southend Council is holding an international landscape architecture competition to choose a design for the Pier Head that will reinvigorate and bring activity to it and the town, making it a source of pride to residents and attraction to tourists. The new Pier Head must be developed in a manner that contributes to the cultural offering within the town while also respecting its heritage.
The competition will be held in two stages with entrants being invited to submit expressions of interest at stage one

Envisaged number of participants: 5.
Conditions for obtaining contractual documents and additional documents
Time-limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents: 8.6.2009 – 14:00.
A prize of GBP 6 000 will be awarded to the designer selected by the judging panel in recognition of the quality, appropriateness and originality of the design presented.
A fee of GBP 4 000 plus reasonable expenses will be paid to each of the five designers who are invited to submit proposals.
